We made it our goal to eat as much sushi as we could when we were in Seattle because, you know, it is not easy for us Albertans to get fresh seafood. However, after having the freshest, most exquisite sushi at Shiro’s, it is pretty difficult to find any other restaurant that’s up to that standard. Sometimes I was not even sure if our palate got more refined, or the food was just bad.

On our last day in Seattle, we took a short trip from Ballard to Wallingford to check out Musashi’s, a Japanese restaurant that was highly rated on Yelp and Urbanspoon for its sushi.

The small, casual restaurant could sit a few table of customers and had a wall of local event posters. The staff quickly sat us at a table before we made our order.

chirashi bowl

The most popular dish, chirashi bowl (USD$14.50), came with generous amount of sashimi and sushi rice. The cuts were thick and fresh, however, the quality was average. Not as amazing as Shiro’s, but given its price, we considered it acceptable.

We also ordered individual pieces of tuna, salmon, scallop and yellowtail nigiri (USD$1.50 each). Again, so-so quality. All I could say was that they were fresh. Not buttery, oceany sweet or moist. I was a bit disappointed after reading all the raving reviews online.

While it was nice to get our seafood craving fixed before we left the city, this place definitely did not worth a special trip. It will puzzle me if someone try to wait in line just to taste that chirashi bowl.
