  • rainwater is collected for reuse on-site
  • water is heated by solar panels
  • high-tech showerheads reduce water consumption (by 65%!)

Room With A View!

As soon as we stepped into the hotel, we were blown away by its unusual design. Inspired by the mountain chalets in Tirol, Austria, Hotel Belmar accentuates Monteverde’s natural beauty by using wood elements throughout both the Main and Chalet buildings.

The rooms are no exception. From flooring, walls to furniture, the general decor is dominated by rustic elements and warm colours, creating an enchanting and welcoming atmosphere all over the place!

There are different room types available Hotel Belmar, varying in size, layout, and view. We stayed at the Belmar Room located in the Chalet building. The spacious room features a king-sized bed, an open-concept bathroom, a separate toilet booth, a double marble vanity and a two-person whirlpool Jacuzzi! In addition, the balcony looks out to the stunning Nicoya Peninsula!!

As mentioned above, the hotel has no air-conditioning, only ceiling fans. We initially thought this would be a concern, but the climate in Monteverde was so cool (18°C-23ºC during the day / 16ºC-18ºC at night) that air-conditioning was not necessary.

You will also find no TV in the room. Internet access can be spotty. But really, when you’re in Monteverde, you are too busy to connect with nature that this doesn’t pose a huge problem.

During your stay, you can escape to the yoga studio to find the balance within you, refuel yourself at the juice bar & tea room, unwind in an outdoor jacuzzi surrounded by greenery, or rejuvenate your body with a relaxing massage!

If you want to immerse yourself in nature, the hotel has a short, private self-guided trail for you to explore. You can also wander around the naturally landscaped gardens, picnic by the pond, or even sunbathe on the sundeck!

Better yet, drive to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve that is only 10 mins away. It is a perfect location for wildlife watching in Monteverde. Kev and I spent a wonderful time at the Hummingbird Gallery admiring the fascinating creature!

Farm To Table Cuisine at Celajes

Hotel Belmar not only is the best Monteverde hotel, but also has the best restaurant in the region.

Offering spectacular views overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the on-site restaurant, Celajes, sets the tone for truly memorable meals. Moreover, it prides itself in using the freshest, healthiest ingredients, most of which are grown either on its organic garden or on the Belmar family farm, Madre Tierra.

Note: The hotel offers various Madre Tierra tours, including farm and horseback riding experience ($70), farm to table experience ($150), garden to class cocktail glass ($45), and brewery tour ($15).

Whether it is breakfast, lunch, or dinner you’re after, it will always be amazing! We highly recommend having a romantic dinner at Celajes (even if you’re not staying there). The grilled octopus ($24) was mindblowingly tender and buttery soft. Without a word of a lie, it is the best we have ever eaten! Also, not to be missed is the pork belly 12 hours ($23), which was fantastically juicy.
