Another food I wanted to try while I was in Vancouver was authentic Taiwanese food to cure my homesickness. Kev’s friend recommended Chef Hung, an award winning beef noodles restaurant chain around the world. We visited the restaurant on the 2nd floor of Aberdeen Center.
Their glass-enclosed kitchen is right by the entrance. You can see the chef making noodles and dumplings. The restaurant is clean, modern and quite big with plenty of seating.
Kev and I shared the champion beef shank with noodle in spicy soup ($10.95). There were thinly sliced beef as well as pieces of beef shank in the noodles. The beef shanks were extremely tender. The meat immediately broke apart in my mouth. The handmade noodles were chewy. The soup wasn’t spicy at all. Unlike the ones I had in Taiwan which were more flavorful, the soup was light and a bit sweet. Very delicious! I really liked it.
We also ordered crispy green onion pancake ($3.75, 4 pieces). The pancake didn’t taste very good. It was too dry and floury.
My review: This place is like the Oreo chocolate sandwich cookies. Only go there for what it is famous for (i.e. beef noodles). Everything else just tastes mediocre.
