Are you a steak lover like Kev? If yes, then you absolutely can’t miss this post!
Kev took me on a romantic date a while ago to Vintage, which is located around the corner of 11 Avenue and 2 St SW. It claims to be one of Calgary’s best steakhouses!
As we entered, we were joyfully greeted by the hostess who seated us in the main dining room. This is the quieter area for couples and families. Vintage also has rooms for private functions. If you come on Friday or Saturday evenings, ask to be seated in the tavern where you get to enjoy live jazz and blues~
The restaurant maintained an elegant decor that held a romantic and classy ambiance. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable. He even gave us a meat presentation to show us what the different cuts of meats look like and explain how each of them would taste like. I had never seen any restaurants done that before and that definitely impressed us.
We started with some sourdough bread. Nothing special really.
Shortly after, Kev’s C.A.B (Certified Angus Beef) 10 oz prime rib ($29) arrived. Its juicy tenderness was the highlight of the meal and gave you a burst of caramelized flavor on the palate. Two thumbs up!
I ordered the herb roasted half chicken ($26), which was very lightly seasoned. The herbs added an incredible depth to the flavor of the chicken. Its juiciness and sweetness created an unforgettable experience.
Both of our meals came with a side of our choice. We had a plateful of humongous steak cut fries and bacon scalloped potatoes. So much starch, eh? Together with the main course, our bellies bloated up fairly quickly. It was impossible to finish all the food between the two of us. We ended up packing half of it home.
Just when you thought we were ready to ask for the bill, we ordered a dessert to share. How could you possibly end a date without a dessert? (Always keep in mind: dessert goes to a different stomach. YOU ALWAYS HAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT).
We were on the adventurous mode that day and chose the dessert neither of us had ever tried in our life- baked alaska ($9). Buried underneath the browned meringue were layers of vanilla ice cream, shortbread cookie, crunchy pearls and strawberry sorbet. The meringue was silky and billowy and the cake was packed with sweet madness. Although I have a sweet tooth, it was too much for me to handle in one night.
Our experience at Vintage was incredible – the food, service and atmosphere were impeccable. If you want to impress someone, bring them to Vintage and you’ll never regret!
