Last Saturday evening, we were in the Kensington neighborhood and passed by this Indian restaurant that our friend recommended. This restaurant has great ambience and looks very fancy. It wasn’t an extremely busy night, probably because of the cold, but was filled with fair amount of customers.
Kev and I ordered one meat dish (coconut chicken curry, $14.95) , one vegetarian dish (vegetable vindaloo, $9.95) and some garlic naan ($2.95 each) to share. Our server was attentive and the food arrived quickly.
Before our curry arrived, the server put one heater kind of thing on our table to keep the curry dishes warm, which was sort of fancy. I never saw any of the Indian restaurants I have visited had such a thing for the customers.
The garlic naan was warm and freshly made. I could smell the heavy garlicky odor from afar. The coconut chicken curry had a sweet taste to it. The boneless chicken pieces were very tender. The vegetable vindaloo came with various ingredients, including green peas, carrots, potatoes, green beans and hot peppers. It tasted very spicy. We had to interchange between vegetable vindaloo and coconut chicken curry to calm the heat. In the end, we finished the whole dish of coconut chicken curry and had to take home the leftover vegetable vindaloo.
We were very satisfied with the quality of the food this place offered. It is, by far, the best Indian restaurant we have tried in Calgary. The prices are on the higher end , but the curries aren’t greasy and taste delicious!
My review: This place is like the godiva chocolate- is a bit pricey, the excellent food and service are worth the money.
