About Hotel Belmar
There is nothing more magical than being in a forest surrounded by a sea of clouds. At Hotel Belmar, you’ll experience just that. Sitting at the mountaintops of Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, it is not unusual to see clouds floating just outside your windows and wake up to the sound of singing birds early in the morning.
The beautiful scenery is an important reason people decide to stay there. To preserve that, Hotel Belmar has put in an extensive effort to sustainability – which is evident in both the hotel design and features. For example:
- the use of large windows promises each room let in an abundance of natural light
- fans and natural ventilation helps regulate temperature (without using air conditioning)
- rainwater is collected for reuse on-site
- water is heated by solar panels
- high-tech showerheads reduce water consumption (by 65%!)
- biodegradable toiletries are used to minimize environmental impact
Their comprehensive sustainability practices have earned them a Level 5 Certification for Sustainable Tourism. By choosing to stay at Hotel Belmar, you are reducing your carbon footprint and helping to protect natural resources!

Room With A View!
As soon as we stepped into the hotel, we were blown away by its unusual design. Inspired by the mountain chalets in Tirol, Austria, Hotel Belmar accentuates Monteverde’s natural beauty by using wood elements throughout both the Main and Chalet buildings.
The rooms are no exception. From flooring, walls to furniture, the general decor is dominated by rustic elements and warm colours, creating an enchanting and welcoming atmosphere all over the place!
There are different room types available Hotel Belmar, varying in size, layout, and view. We stayed at the Belmar Room located in the Chalet building. The spacious room features a king-sized bed, an open-concept bathroom, a separate toilet booth, a double marble vanity and a two-person whirlpool Jacuzzi! In addition, the balcony looks out to the stunning Nicoya Peninsula!!

As mentioned above, the hotel has no air-conditioning, only ceiling fans. We initially thought this would be a concern, but the climate in Monteverde was so cool (18°C-23ºC during the day / 16ºC-18ºC at night) that air-conditioning was not necessary.
You will also find no TV in the room. Internet access can be spotty. But really, when you’re in Monteverde, you are too busy to connect with nature that this doesn’t pose a huge problem.

Wellness-Focused Facilities and Activities
If you believe maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important while traveling, you’ve come to the right place. Hotel Belmar has made health and wellness a priority.
During your stay, you can escape to the yoga studio to find the balance within you, refuel yourself at the juice bar & tea room, unwind in an outdoor jacuzzi surrounded by greenery, or rejuvenate your body with a relaxing massage!
If you want to immerse yourself in nature, the hotel has a short, private self-guided trail for you to explore. You can also wander around the naturally landscaped gardens, picnic by the pond, or even sunbathe on the sundeck!
Better yet, drive to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve that is only 10 mins away. It is a perfect location for wildlife watching in Monteverde. Kev and I spent a wonderful time at the Hummingbird Gallery admiring the fascinating creature!

Farm To Table Cuisine at Celajes
Hotel Belmar not only is the best Monteverde hotel, but also has the best restaurant in the region.
Offering spectacular views overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the on-site restaurant, Celajes, sets the tone for truly memorable meals. Moreover, it prides itself in using the freshest, healthiest ingredients, most of which are grown either on its organic garden or on the Belmar family farm, Madre Tierra.
Note: The hotel offers various Madre Tierra tours, including farm and horseback riding experience ($70), farm to table experience ($150), garden to class cocktail glass ($45), and brewery tour ($15).
Whether it is breakfast, lunch, or dinner you’re after, it will always be amazing! We highly recommend having a romantic dinner at Celajes (even if you’re not staying there). The grilled octopus ($24) was mindblowingly tender and buttery soft. Without a word of a lie, it is the best we have ever eaten! Also, not to be missed is the pork belly 12 hours ($23), which was fantastically juicy.

Costa Rica is a mystery to me. When you mentioned the term-‘laidback tropical paradise’ I got a faint idea what it must be like. I love reading about this property. I prefer huge windows and well ventilated rooms. I am glad that they are also eco friendly.
I like the earthy feel that this place has. Not only is it comfortable but I like the whole sustainable tourism bit. Good to see rainwater being put to use as well as solar energy as a key source.

Hotel Belmar looks like the perfect place to stay in Monteverde. I visited many places in Costa Rica on day trips from San Jose but after seeing how you can live in luxury and a clean environment in Monteverde I must base myself there next time! Monteverde is one place in Costa Rica that I wanted to go but didn’t get a chance. I can’t imagine a better place to stay than Hotel Belmar. What a dream to be up in the treetops. I am very envious and think I will need to come back to CR to check this place out.
You had me at rooms with a view. That is why I always like to book rooms with balconies so I can have somewhere to sit and sip my coffee while relishing the view. Nothing screams vacation more than that! And can we talk about how amazing that bathroom is!
I love the outdoor jacuzzi with so many green trees and nice atmosphere. Also, the room looks gorgeous with the architecture and the design. Trying horse riding and enjoying juicy pork belly sound really nice to me too! I would love to stay here if I’m around Monteverde.
I was thinking mountain chalet from the pictures but the jungle hardwood details and furniture are exquisite. I love the views of the jungle and the connection you get with the area. We didn’t make it to Monteverde and only climbed the hill as far as Arenal but this looks like a beautiful property to explore the cloud forest from.

What a beautiful property! Love everything from the classic chalet style of the buildings to all of the wood paneled interiors. Your view really is breathtaking. After spending one day in Costa Rica on a cruise this last year, I know I want to go back — and this looks like a perfect place to stay.
