SJO airport is the starting point for many people’s Costa Rica vacations. Before embarking on a long car journey to visit all the beautiful places, sometimes it is inevitable to spend a night in San Jose. Just because you are making a quick stop near the airport, doesn’t mean that you can’t treat yourself to a luxury hotel stay to recharge after a long flight. The best place to do so is at Barcelo San Jose! The 5-star hotel has everything you need to feel relaxed and prepared to start your exploration of Costa Rica.
Barcelo San Jose: The Best 5-Star Hotel in San Jose, Costa Rica
With its location just 15km from the SJO Airport and 5km from the city center, Barcelo San Jose is a fantastic accommodation for transit passengers and visitors to the Central Valley. Formally known as Barcelo San Jose Palacio, this 5-star hotel connects you within minutes to San Jose’s main business, entertainment, and shopping areas. Perfect for those who want peace and quiet but still wish to be central.
Exclusive VIP Services At The Premium Level
Hotel check-ins can be frustrating and time-consuming. But it is not the case at Barcelo San Jose.
A reservation at the Premium Level gave us access to exclusive, personalized services – and this included private check-in/check-out! At the private lounge, Kev and I received a warm welcome from the staff and were pleased with the quick and smooth check-in process.
As the Premium Level guests, we also enjoyed many other exclusive benefits, such as complimentary WiFi, daily newspapers, express laundry service, late check-out, and priority reservation at the a la carte restaurants. The best part is that food is available in the private lounge area throughout the day. There’s no need to worry about being hungry!
Not renting a car? Don’t worry. The hotel offers complimentary transfers to/from SJO Airport. All you need is a prior reservation.
If you’re looking to rent a car (which we strongly encourage if you’re planning to visit the volcanoes and beaches), the concierge can provide assistance with car rental. We suggest renting a 4WD if you’re visiting Monteverde. For car rental companies, we highly recommend Adobe Rent a Car, which offers good hassle-free service, reliable cars, and competitive prices with no hidden charges!
Premium Level Superior Room
Premium Level rooms are situated on the 5th and 6th floors so you’re guaranteed a spectacular view.
Our superior room features a comfortable king-sized bed and a spacious living room looking out to the lush mountains. It is designed to help us feel refreshed and rejuvenated after a long day. And can you believe that a Premium Level room like this is priced as low as US$101 per night? What a steal!

Besides the food service offered at the Premium Level, there are 3 restaurants and 1 bar onsite. From flame grilled dishes to international classics, you will always find something to tempt your taste buds.
