Maui has no shortage of luxurious hotels, but Fairmont Kea Lani on the Wailea coast is a cut above the rest on all fronts. Whether you’re looking for spacious accommodation, top-notch dining options, or Hawai‘ian cultural activities, Fairmont Kea Lani will bring the wow factor to the experience and make your vacation extra special, without breaking the bank! On our recent trip to Maui, we had the joy of staying at Fairmont Kea Lani and regretted not booking for longer. Below are the 5 things that made us fall in love with it!

Fairmont Kea Lani Maui Hawaiio1| Finding Comfort in the Stylishly Designed and Spacious Suite

At Hawai‘i’s only all-suite and villa resort, we were pleased to find oceanfront luxury and comfort in our spacious one-bedroom suite. The 860 sq. ft. space has everything we could ever dream of, including a separate living room and bedroom, plus a generously sized bathroom with double sinks, separate shower, and bathtub. On top of that, the recent renovation has given the room a crisp, clean look and contemporary furnishings throughout.

The private lanai, without question, was my favourite aspect, providing a beautiful, unobstructed view of the ocean! From the balcony, it would be hard to miss the glistening Mediterranean white exterior, which aptly reflects the hotel’s name “Kea Lani,” meaning “white heaven” in Hawai‘ian.

02| Only Steps Away From the Ocean

Simply step outside your door and you’ll find yourself right on the white sands of Polo Beach, looking out to the turquoise ocean. The beach, protected by lava rocks at both ends, has calm, shallow waters, excellent for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Hawai‘ian Green Sea Turtles, along with other incredible tropical marine life, are commonly seen in this area. During winter months, Polo Beach is an ideal location for whale watching!

And, in my opinion, it is one of the best places to watch the sunset in Maui!

03| Getting Up-Close and Personal with Hawai‘ian Culture

At Fairmont Kea Lani, it is all about connecting to the Hawai‘ian culture. The resort offers various complimentary activities to enrich your experience during the stay. You can go on an outrigger canoe excursion, pick up the basics of the Hawai‘ian language, learn hula dancing, or join a Hawai‘ian cultural tour!

If you have any question about Maui, or Hawai‘i in general, feel free to ask away! Fairmont Kea Lani has a cultural ambassador on-site to share insider tips for things to see and on the island!

04| Being Pampered and Spoiled at Willow Stream Spa

While at Fairmont Kea Lani, you cannot miss out on the award-winning Willow Stream Spa, which has been voted “The Best Hotel Spa in Hawai‘i” by Travel + Leisure. Prides itself in providing locally-inspired experiences with ancient Hawaiian tradition, this luxury spa is the place to go if you want to play kings and queens for a day. To alleviate deep-seated tension and muscular stress, we booked a one-hour couple’s massage, after which we felt revitalized from head to toe.

Also worth mentioning is Willow Stream Spa’s hi-tech amenities such as heated stone lounges, inhalation steam rooms, sauna, a soothing pālolo (mud) bar, and full sensory experience showers inspired by Maui rain! showers and a soothing pālolo (mud) bar. You can even treat yourself to a special massage on the WaveMotion table, which tilts, rotates and rocks to create a weightless sensation, or rejuvenate your body with the Vichy shower treatment!

05| Indulging in a Tempting Range of Dining Options

Looking to satisfy your hunger cravings? No need to venture far! You have an array of choices at your fingertips: sumptuous breakfast buffet at Kea Lani Restaurant; home-made sandwiches, salads, and snacks at Caffe Ciao Bakery; sashimi, poke bowls, and bento boxes at Ama Bar and Grill; freshly caught seafood at Nick’s Fishmarket Maui; and well-crafted cocktails with spectacular ocean and sunset views at Luana.

But it is the dinner at that we couldn’t get enough of. Voted as Maui’s Restaurant of the Year in 2013, this award-winning restaurant will blow your mind away with its innovative plantation-inspired cuisine, featuring Hawai‘ian, Chinese, Filipino, Portuguese, Korean, and Japanese dishes. The Ahi On the Rock ($25) is my favorite, where I got to enjoy the fun of searing the shichimi spiced tuna cubes on the heated stone before dipping them in orange-ginger miso sauce. The intensely flavoured Zarzuela ($47), a seafood stew packed with lobster, shrimp, scallops, and chorizo simmered in rich saffron broth, is a real treat!
