Hāna, a small, peaceful town hidden away on Maui’s lush eastern shore, is the end point to the legendary scenic Road to Hāna. Considered as one of the last unspoiled Hawai‘ian frontiers, it is a shame not to spend a night or two in Hāna, especially after a stressful, challenging drive. Imagine welcoming the sunrise over the ocean from your bed, learning the traditional Hawai‘ian throw net fishing, or riding a horse through lush valleys as a paniolo (Hawai‘ian cowboys) – none of these would be possible with just a day trip. To fully experience the exquisite natural beauty and forge a deeper connection to the Hawai`ian culture, we couldn’t recommend Travaasa Hāna (rebranded as Hana-Maui Resort) more highly!
Travaasa Hāna: Maui’s Last Truly Hawai‘ian Place
Travaasa’s extremely remote location makes it an ideal sanctuary for those wishing for a peaceful and secluded stay on a tropical island paradise. Perched above Hāna Bay with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, this rustic luxury resort feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city. With only 71 guestrooms that span 70 acres of lush tropical gardens, Travaasa Hāna invites you to unplug from technology and connect with the natural beauty and culture of Hawai‘i.
Besides its remote natural setting, what really sets Travaasa Hāna apart is its signature Travaasa Experiences. Whether it is to participate in guided adventures, culinary classes, cultural activities, spa treatments, or fitness programs, it will sure take you on a journey to the enjoy the real aloha spirit!

The Rooms: Garden Suites and Ocean Bungalows
Travaasa Hāna offers 2 types of accommodations: garden suites that set amidst lush, enchanting gardens, or ocean bungalows with dramatic scenery of the cliff-lined coastline. I highly suggest staying at the ocean bungalow, where you could easily fall asleep to the soothing sound of crashing waves and the gentle ocean breeze. Aside from that, the room is luxuriously airy and high-ceilinged, accompanied by a private lanai (deck) that offers expansive ocean views. Who can resist that?
No matter which room you end up choosing, you will get an inviting, plantation-home feel. By using sustainable materials, the rooms maintain a unique Hawai‘ian design aesthetic.
Most rooms come equipped with a large bathroom including a soaking bathtub and a separate walk-in shower, Coyuchi organic cotton sheets and towels, feather-top beds, living and dining areas, as well as a kitchenette stocked with Hāna blend coffee, gourmet herbal teas, and a mini-fridge.
Complimentary WiFi is available in the room, but to preserve a sense of serenity, you won’t find radios, televisions or clocks. It is also air-conditioner-free. Despite that, the ceiling fan and trade winds are sufficient to keep you cool!
On-Site Facilities & Activities
As an activity-based property, Travaasa Hāna has so much to offer that you will never run out of things to do! On-site, you can make use of the tennis courts, pilates and yoga studio, activity center, fitness room, 3-hole pitch & putt golf course, outdoor pools, hot tub, and the full-service spa.
As mentioned earlier, an extensive selection of complimentary activities is available daily, covering five areas of interest: Adventure, Culinary, Culture, Fitness, and Spa & Wellness. From lei making, ‘ukulele lessons, spear throwing, to coconut husking, there’s no shortage of opportunities to immerse yourself in Hawai‘i’s rich cultural heritage! You can even explore further afield by going gliding, horseback riding, canoeing, or paddleboarding (additional fee applies).
Beachgoers might wonder if the resort has direct beach access. Sadly, no, but it does provide complimentary shuttles to the nearby Hamoa Beach, described by James Michener as the “most perfect crescent beach in the Pacific.”
Food & Drink
You might have heard that food options in Hāna are limited. Good news is that there’s one fine-dining restaurant in the town and it happens to be right inside Travaasa Hāna! Overlooking Hāna Bay and Kauiki Hill, The Preserve Kitchen + Bar features innovative dishes using locally harvested ingredients. It is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Pro tip: To make your vacation hassle-free, the resort offers all-inclusive packages (Total Travaasa), which include three meals daily and a $175 resort credit per person per day, which can be used toward spa treatments and private classes. Otherwise, you can keep it à la carte (Your Travaasa).
Combining luxury with the unspoiled nature of Maui, Travaasa Hāna is no doubt a tranquil haven of rest and relaxation. It is also a wonderful place to forge a meaningful connection with the Hawai‘ian culture!

I must say that this place is very peaceful and relaxing. The ambiance is really cool and comforting. I would like to take dip in that tub while enjoying the cold breeze. I haven’t heard about this place yet, but I’ll surely bear this mind for a future reference. Thank you so much for sharing!
Hope you get to visit one day! The stay is so comforting and provides a great way to connect with nature!
We love places like this. The Road to Hana is an epic adventure in and of itself but there is life on the other side. Why not take a day or two away from the city and let the the island vibe wash over you. While you are there, enjoy some great island cooking and yoga. What a beautiful property and pictures to boot.
You’re right! Hana is like another world, so lush and beautiful! I regretted not having enough time to participate in all the cultural activities it offers. I will need to revisit this place for sure!
This looks like a beautiful place to stay! I love how natural and unspoiled it looks. And I would definitely be interested in trying some of those culinary or cultural activities. Hawaii is high on my list of places to visit next!
It’s so beautiful that it looks like it is straight out of a movie! Participating in those activities is the best way to explore Maui!
Wow, this looks like a wonderful place to stay. Great stay after a long day getting to The Road to Hana, I’m sure! Looks like so many fun activities to do on the resort and the spa treatments also sound great. I’ll have to check it out whenever I get a chance to go to Maui!
For sure! I don’t understand why some people come to Hana and leave in a rush. It is a place with so much beauty that 1 or 2 days are simply not enough to explore it all!
Hawaii, the name itself is enough to conjure up images of an exotic island with swaying palm trees and silvery beaches. This place seems like a slice of paradise and it looks so pristine and untouched. It is a pity that the world over we are losing the sanctity of such wonderful places as commercialization sets in.
I totally agreed! Here in Hana, we saw the uncommercialised, unspoiled part of the island and it really opened our eyes!
The place is absolutely gorgeous. At the beginning I couldn’t believe my eyes. Travaasa Hāna is definitely one of the places I would like to go. The palm trees are my favorite and when I see them in a photo somewhere, I must promise to myself that I will go there someday.
It is so beautiful that I couldn’t fully put it into words. You need to see its beauty in person!
Wow! The place in indeed a paradise on earth! Though Hawaii is popular, I hadn’t known of Maui, till the movie Moana!! So green and so lush, the place looks so gorgeous! The hot tub looks just perfectly comfortable.
In Hawaii, I have only been to Maui and I’m loving it! You should really visit Maui, especially Hana, if you get a chance! Soaking in that hot tub is the best way to unwind after a day of sightseeing!
Travaasa Hana looks like the absolute essence of what I’d want out of an island vacation. The place is stunningly gorgeous. I’d find myself beyond comfortable here. And that hot tub?! Is that even real!
Whoever comes up with that hot tub idea is brilliant! I could soak in there for hours!
What a perfect resort! Love the hot tub over looking that gorgeous greenery and gotta love a place with a table tennis! The restaurant overlooking that view is pretty darn beautiful too! Thanks for sharing!
The resort really connects you to the nature and the Hawai`ian culture! If you want a true Hawaii`an experience, Travaasa Hana is the place to stay!
WOW! The resort looks absolutely gorgeous. Perfect for an idyllic vacation. Garden Suites and Ocean Bungalows are my kinda place. Hope to stay in them soon.
The views from the ocean bungalows are unbeatable! It is so comforting to fall asleep to the ocean sound and breeze!
I’ve always wanted to go to Hawaii, and this place looks incredible! Who could resist an ocean view bungalow with those views 🙂 what a beautiful place to stay.
The bungalow is so close to the ocean that you can admire the views straight from your lanai! It really is a paradise!
I hope one day to visit Hawaii Islands and enjoy some peace and relaxation as you did.
You should! Maui is gorgeous and Hana is out of the world stunning!
I visited Hawaii recently and thought how built up it was. Hana sounds interesting as it doesn’t sound to be Americanized! Travaasa Hāna would be perfect for a stay in the real Hawaii, it looks beautiful and with the food package as well it would be a relaxing experience.
Hana is completely different and truly a place where you can have a Hawai`ian experience! Hope you get to visit one day, stay at Travaasa Hana and explore this unspoiled part of the island!
Looks beautiful. Best thing I like is the place is not crowded. Hawaii is definitely o my list 🙂
Surprisingly not many people stay overnight at Hana! Spending a few days here lets you explore Hana at a slower pace and fully indulge in the natural beauty!
Experiencing a Hawaiian throw net fishing or horse riding in cowboy style sounds like a great way to experience its culture along with the array of recreational activities offered. The accommodations offered by the Travaasa Hana looks loaded with comfort and luxury amidst the abundance of nature and the view of the pacific ocean is awe-inspiring.
Exactly! Where else could you experience net-fishing or horseback-riding? I visited other parts of Maui and didn’t see other resorts offering activities like that!
Looks like you had a dream vacation with everything looking so perfect – Hawaii is indeed a gorgeous place, and Hana does live to its expectations!
Yes it does! Before our drive to Hana, we had doubts. But glad that it lived up to expectations! I would go back in a heartbeat!
Travaasa Hāna looks like the perfect destination to unwind and have fun. I like that it looks so tranquil and beautiful. The interior designs look friendly, modern and comfortable. I like the color combination of the furniture like the wooden table and light blue sofa. It is so spacious and you can do a lot of indoor activities too.
That’s right! Although we spent most of our time outdoor exploring, I loved how comfortable and spacious the room is! For people who prefer to relaxing indoor, it is a wonderful place to unwind and have fun!
Oh my goodness!! Can I go here NOW please?! Love all the beautiful green and peaceful vibes!!
Isn’t it a wonderful place to relax?!
What a beautiful place! It must be so peaceful – I’d definitely go for the ocean bungalow, I love falling asleep to the sound of waves. But my favourite place is the outside hot tub, I’d love that!
The hot tub is such a popular place! It is usually packed with people so gotta go early to save the spot!
This property looks amazing and offer so many activities to do. Definitely a good place to wind down and recharge. I hope to visit Hawaii soon one day!
You should totally check this place out! It is the best place to experience Hawai`ian culture!
This is what I need! I need to book a solo retreat like this and take a week off to focus on myself, my blog, and really reflecting on certain things. The secluded area sounds wonderful, and with so many different activities, I would never get bored haha
What a great idea! This would be a great place for a remote office! Even if you don’t explore outdoor, there’s so much going on in the resort to keep you busy!
Travaasa Hana sounds like the ideal place for me! I love all the onsite wellness activities and wow, that view certainly doesn’t hurt 😉 I wish we stayed overnight when we did the Road to Hana- driving back the same day was so exhausting. I’m sure the mister would love to try spear throwing and take up on ukelele lessons!
My hubby made the request to spend a night or two at Hana because driving that winding road back and forth in a day is exhausting! I’m glad we did! This time we didn’t do as many activities as I’d like, but next time, I will make an effort to try that ukelele lesson and horseback-riding!
Such a lovely property and you did such a good job of describing the experience of being there. Although it is far beyond my budget, it would be a nice splurge for a honeymoon or other special occasion. Loved that they have transport to the beach and many other things to do there as well as relaxing.
It is such a perfect place for a honeymoon or special occasions! Hope you get to visit someday!
I’m so jealous at your Hawaii experience! If I go there, I would consider this paradise on Maui! 🙂
Hana is my favourite place in Maui! The drive is totally worth it!
It sure looks peaceful! Such a nice place to relax. And I probably wouldn’t miss that yoga class! 😀
The open-air studio is wonderful! There’s no better place to practice yoga than by the ocean!
Very peaceful and calm place as per your post. I will add this to my list of places to visit in Hawaii. Its so relaxing and stress free…. 🙂
It is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy what Maui truly has to offer!
This resort looks right up my alley! I love traveling to remote places, and all the luxurious touches are so nice to have. I can just imagine myself soaking in that hot tub after a full day exploring the area.
There is so much to do in the resort itself! And that hot tub is one of my favourite spots onsite!
