After zipping through the air towards Niagara Falls or getting soaked on a jet boat ride, the perfect way to unwind is by tasting the area’s signature Icewines and savouring the local farm-to-table fare. A 15-min drive from Niagara Falls will take you to Canada’s most renowned wine region, Niagara-on-the-Lake, where you can get a taste of the spectacular wines and exquisite culinary delights. Among the 37 wineries, Peller Estates is considered the best winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake. This estate winery not only has a fine-dining restaurant on site, but also has Niagara’s only ice lounge, giving you an unforgettable experience that is incomparable to any other wineries!
Why is Peller Estates the best winery?
As you set foot on Peller Estates Winery, it is hard not to notice the picturesque Provincial French-style chateau. This gorgeous 5000 sq ft facility took the Peller family 2 years to build. Inside, it houses a stunning tasting center and modern wine shop, an artfully decorated restaurant, a barrel cellar, and an ice lounge. It is a wine lover’s dream destination!
There are many reasons why Peller Estates is considered the best winery at Niagara-on-the-Lake.
First of all, this family-owned and operated winery has consistently produced award-winning wines over the years. From Icewines to Chardonnays and Rieslings, you are sure to find premium-quality wines that rank among the best in the world!

Second, the winery offers a rich variety of wine experiences for you to take part in. You can join the basic wine tour, which gives you a chance to see the vineyard, to learn about the production of the wines, and to have a tasting introduction along with some signature wines. Or, you can sign up for a cheese, chocolate or food pairing experience!
If time permits, I highly recommend visiting their one-of-a-kind 10Below Ice Lounge! You will get to experience Icewine with all five senses!
10Below Icewine Lounge
What is Icewine? What is 10Below?
To bring you up to speed, Icewine is an ultra-rich, super sweet dessert wine. To produce a true, authentic Icewine, grapes must be harvested frozen on the vine. Since the temperatures often fluctuate during the day, the grapes are usually picked in the middle of the night to ensure the temperature will stay below -10°C. These grapes are then pressed immediately after while still frozen to create very concentrated and sweet wine.
The 10Below Icewine Lounge is the best way to experience what -10°C feels like.
Before entering the igloo-like lounge, you gotta dress for the cold. A parka and a pair of gloves will be given to you to keep your body warm.
Stepping into the ice lounge is like entering a world of ice, where everything you see and touch is constructed of crystal clear ice. The walls, furniture, chandelier, bar counter….everything!
Being surrounded by ice also means it is spine chilling cold. Your face will feel a little numb. Your fingers will tingle. Luckily, the staff will pour you samples of their signature Icewines to help you stay warm!
If Icewines aren’t strong enough, the Icewine Martini will guarantee to warm you from your toes on up!
Pro tip: To access the ice lounge, you must sign up for the Greatest Winery Tour or the Ultimate 10Below Experience.

The Winery Restaurant
Dining at the Peller Estates Winery Restaurant is a must! Awarded the highest Zagat rating ‘Extraordinary’, the restaurant on-site is one of the finest in the area.
With sweeping views of the vineyard, the restaurant celebrates local ingredients, showcasing exquisite regional dishes that pair beautifully with the winery’s award-winning wines.
From appetizer to dessert, chef Jason Parson’s creativity will delight your taste buds and take you on a Niagara-inspired culinary journey!
You have a choice of ordering the signature tasting menu, which includes a five- or seven-course extravaganza of the chef’s finest dishes. If you don’t have a big appetite, you can also order a la carte. In that case, we recommend the Icewine chicken liver parfait ($18), lobster linguine ($40), and sous vide Ontario venison ($50)!
Pro tip: Reservation is highly encouraged to prevent disappointment.

Wow! This place looks incredible. Love the ice bar concept. Would love to visit this place next time I’m in the area.
As a wine-lover, I am amazed to read about Icewine and wondering now how I never heard of this before! I would love to try this 10 Below Ice Lounge, it seems like such a unique experience. I don’t envy the people who have to do the overnight grape harvests though 😉 Thanks Cat for sharing this wine experience!
Ice bars are a lot of fun. Putting on those big jackets, gloves and then wandering around beautiful ice sculptures. I never knew about ice wine either and that they picked the grapes during the night just so the grapes are the right temperature, learnt something new today. 🙂
I would love to visit this winery and restaurant. The ice bar lounge is wonderful, and I can tell you need to wrap up to enjoy it! I can see why it’s one of the best, I’ll remember this for when I return.
I love exploring wineries and this one is pretty unique! I’ve visited ice bars before and I love the whole getting wrapped up and cosy so this would be fantastic to visit.
Peller looks super elegant but also fun. The ice wine room looks a bit chilly. That would be nice to visit on a warm summer day.
Even if you don’t drink wine, this looks like a stunning place with delicious food! Of course, I would drink the wine. Especially the ice wine:)
I’ve visited wineries all over the world but never one with an ice lounge. The ice lounge would be reason enough to visit to visit Peller Estates Winery, but I’d also want to eat at the restaurant and do a wine tasting.
I had no idea what Icewine was until now. Thanks for that. I would love to try out the Icewine chicken liver parfait too. Can;t wait to head there. Cheers!!
Ice wine seems right up our alley. Perhaps it says something about us, but sweet and concentrated sounds like a great place to start. Sometimes, I wish I was a bit more sophisticated and could takes the nutty undertones and such but, if I was to sophisticated in my wine, it wouldn’t match the rest of my personality.
I was at Niagara recently and had to skip the wine-tour due to lack of time…and I think I really missed something special! Peller Estates looks like the place to keep in mind next time I am there, and I think I will absolutely love the ice-wine too 🙂
what a cool experience, as a wine-lover myself i=this would def be a place to visit if i was in that part of the world. I love the ice room experience and ice wine production you mentioned. def something unique from your regular wine estate!
I’ve been to Niagara but I had no idea it was a wine region too. The icebar really looks so cool, my boyfriend hasn’t been to the Falls so we’ve been looking at going up there from NY in the near future.
Wineries are always a great place to unwind. But this Ice Lounge takes the cake. I wish it was near my place, especially during the summers. And teh food you mention don’t seem to be that expensive considering the nature of the property!
I love that they provide parkas, that’s awesome! In my experience wineries have GREAT restaurants, there is no better way to show off a wine than with great food!
They really make sure that the temperature of the wine stays below -10 don’t they! A visit to the Ice lounge looks fun, especially when you get to put the big coat on, it makes for great photos! I would definitely visit the Peller Estates on a visit to Niagara on the Lake.
The ice lounge looks like such a cool experience. I want to visit one! I also love a dessert wine and it is so cool to know that about the grapes being harvested in the middle of the night. Cool tidbit. I love stuff like that!
This sure is a unique winery experience. First of all the French Chateau looks so beautiful and picturesque. I was bowled over by the 10Below experience. Tasting specially made wine in an igloo kind of a space, almost dressed like an Eskimo must indeed be a thrilling experience.
i love visiting winery but I like that this one has an ice bar. I can imagine it would be really chilly though. How long can you stay inside ?
I am not a fan of super sweet wine but it would be nice to cool off from a hot summer day in the ice vault and learn about something new 🙂 Thanks for the introduction!
@ knycx.journeying
A friend from Canada once offered us ice wine, I really liked it! I would love to visit the winery where they produce it. And also have a drink in the ice bar! Wasn’t it too cold though?
Ice wines are my favourite! Soooo good after a nice meal. I like how they provide you with gloves and a parka for the lounge!
I’d never heard of ice wine, but it sounds really interesting. And tasting it in an ice lounge sounds even more unique! I love visiting wineries so will put this one on my list!
Lobster linguine? Be silk my heart! And I’m not the biggest fan of cold so have always hesitated in visiting an ice bar but I would definitely make the exception to try the ice wine! Really cool that they harvest the grape while frozen!
I’m hearing so much lately about Niagara-on-the-Lake, and it’s famous icewine. I had no idea that there were as many as 37 wineries in total, so thanks for the tip on making sure not to miss Peller Estates. Definitely reminiscent of a picturesque Provincial French-style chateau! I’m a very big fan of super sweet dessert wine, so I’m really looking forward to tasting icewine. The 10Below Icewine Lounge sounds like a super fun and unique experience!
Such a unique experience with this winery! I’d love to try those Icewines too. The food at the restaurant looked great too. I’ll definitely take note of this place if I visit Niagara Fall one day!
The whole process of harvesting the grapes for the ice wine sounds cold and interesting. Not sure if I would be a happy camper being out there in the dead of night in -10 degrees temperature picking frozen grapes. I definitely would be happy to taste test in the ice room though!
I love wine. This seems to be the best place for wine lover around Niagara. I did not know that only to maintain the temperature, they harvest the grapes in midnight. The ice wine sounds great to me, I would love to visit those ice lounges wearing those big jackets.
I think that a winery is the best place where to go and enjoy Niagara Falls after getting wet in/behind/close to the waterfalls. The place looks great and I am sure that it is the best choice for a perfect day. Hope to visit the American Continent some day and visit these places in person.
Wow! I just went to a winery this past Sunday, but this one looks way cooler! Loving that ice lounge! I’ve never seen that at a winery. It’s nice they give you parkas and gloves to wear before entering, so you don’t have to lug around your own.
Thanks for a wonderful blog post! Spread over 5000 sq feet, Peller Estates is really huge! I loved the layout of the blog site with the colors you have exhibited!
How fun!! I do love wine tasting in unique environments, I’m not sure you’d find a more unique environment than trying icewine in an ice lounge! It looks like Peller Estates has done everything right, from having the restaurant on site, to offering some particularly good Rieslings. And while I’m not a big Chardonnay fan, I’d be willing to give it a try here!
I had no idea it was 37 wineries in that area. Peller Estates definitely looks like a unique one. The Icewine looks so cool and perfect for Instagram too. Don’t think I have seen something similar. I would definitely eat at that restaurant. I would keep Peller Estates in mind when I visit Niagara 🙂
I had never heard of icewine until the past couple months and now it seems to keep coming up! I’m headed to Niagara next week – maybe I’ll try to fit trying some icewine into my day!
Now that is one unique winery! I’ve never heard of this, but it looks like quite the experience! Would love to give this a go. ‘Cool’ seems a bit on the nose, huh 😉 I had no idea wine was so big in this area, but this would be my first stop on a winery tour!
I seriously want to experience the 10Below Ice Lounge. I don’t like the cold, but this is definitely worth it. I love red wine, but getting the chance to sip on this very sweet wine is a one-of-a-kind experience for sure! And good thing that they provide the jacket and gloves.
I am a wine lover but Icewine is something really new to me. I have never heard about it. The ice lounge looks beautiful and you too in those clothes. Your nose is already red girl. I am adding this winery to my travel list. The Peller estate has done everything so perfectly. Really enjoyed your post and pictures.
Omg the pictures of that ice lounge are making me shiver 🙂 but I’d love to experience this place myself. The name “10 below ice wine” sounds very apt. 🙂
Love your post! We went to NOTL in January and stopped by Peller, but were too scared of the cold to try 10Below, haha. They were super busy when we went, since it was the Icewine Festival, but I really loved their cab franc icewine. Will have to go back again in the summer!
This looks SO COOL!! I’ve seen vodka places like this but never for wine. How unusual. The restaurant looks like a great place to relax too and thaw out. The food looks amazing! Although I dunno about that chicken liver…! Haha. Thanks for sharing
Wow! This seems like an outstanding winery! I would definitely love to experience this soon!
I’m so intrigued by the Ice bar! What a “cool” concept 🙂 — would love to try drinking their wine down there. The restaurant looks perfect as well, and tasting menus to accompany wines are always a great way to go, since the winery knows what pairs perfectly with each of their wines.
